A photograph album dating from May 1956 containing 18 original large photographs of the clearing-up and tip-levelling operations following the demolition of the Woodthorpe Colliery, South Sheffield.
10 x 7.5 inches, 260 x 185 mm, ribbon-tied photograph album. Each photograph 8 x 6 inches crisp and clean, most with their location overtyped with one of them dated "May 1956".
Woodthorpe Colliery in the area of the present-day Woodthope Estate, Pit Lane and Mansfield Road was opened in about the mid-1800s before closing shortly before the second world war in 1939.
In near immaculate condition. An outstanding local history item for the area; initial research suggests that no comparable photographic record exists elsewhere.
