Flugzeug Fibel: Neuzeitliche Militarflugzeuge (Modern military aircraft) Berlin: 1935.
£28, plus postage (details at the end of this listing)
A German 1930s aircraft recognition manual showing military aircraft of foreign (to them) countries including especially Britain and France.
7.5 x 5.25 inches, 19 x 13 cms. 108 pages, 97 printed photographs of foreign (to Germany) military aircraft, with a special concentration on British aircraft. Original brown card covers. Printed in black letter Fraktur/Gothic script throughout.
A lovely specimen of a mid-1930s German foreign military aircraft recognition manual, published 4 years prior to the commencement of WW2.
Examples of this early foretaste of the war can be found today in Germany but seldom appear for sale in Britain.
Interestingly, there is a rarely-seen image of a Spitfire (on page 56) in its original Supermarine Type 224 format, an open-cockpit monoplane with bulky gull-wings and a large fixed, spatted undercarriage powered by the 600 horsepower Rolls-Royce Goshawk engine. Within a year, the Spitfire had been virtually completely redesigned.
The names of many other types of aircraft shown are completely forgotten today.
